Hallo!
I am in Iceland! I can’t believe it. This country has been on my bucket list since I read my first National Geographic magazine featuring this beautiful land. I’m going to be here for nine days, and there’s way too much to fit into one blog post! I’m going to focus on my first day here.
I’m SUPER lucky that my friend Rachel was able to join me for this adventure. We’ve rented a car, booked airbnb’s and hostels, researched the country, and are prepared for nine days of beauty!
I took a two and a half hour flight from London into Keflavik airport, arriving bright and early at 10AM. After picking up our car from Auto Car, Rachel and I took off to our airbnb in Reykjavik. Thank goodness for Garmin GPS! Rachel brought one, and our car company provided one. Somehow, we still get lost and have to use a paper map, but at least we have options.
After Rachel travelled 20 hours from the US, and I’d been up since 2AM for my early flight, we confined our first day to one of the most unique museums in Iceland, possibly in the world. The only museum of its kind, definitely. The Icelandic Phallological Museum. Essentially, this is a museum filled with 280 penises of a wide variety of animals, mythical creatures, and human men, all in jars of formaldehyde displayed on shelves or pedestals. There was also a smattering of phallic drawings, cartoons, and letters from men donating their penises to the museum upon their death. This museum was an absolute trip! Not for the faint of heart, but educational and entertaining. And, slightly awkward as we were the giggling girls while the two other men studied the specimens intently. I must say that the empty jar proclaiming to hold an elf penis (one of the “hidden people”) was a highlight. That, and the mossy rock that was the “merman penis.”
Merman Penis. Questionable.
Gigantic whale penis. Seriously, these were taller than me. Frightening!

Iceland, I can’t wait to see what you have in store for me tomorrow.
